AliDeck aluminium decking used on elevated steel-framed balconies on houses in Taunton, Somerset
The AliDeck System of aluminium decking has become the de facto standard for balcony and terrace decking in the UK. Our complete system of decking boards, joists, pedestals and accessories provides the versatility that our customers need.
Another factor that delivers maximum utility from AliDeck is the varying specifications within our range, with a range of options available in each product line to achieve the performance demanded by the project.
This elevated balcony project in Taunton is a great example. The goal of the project was to make the addition of large balcony areas to the rear of two adjacent houses, with large steel frameworks to be designed to provide the balcony level to the first floor.
Working closely with the designer in the early stages, we were very happy to provide a small quantity of decking material in order for them to do a “test install” to understand precisely how the AliDeck boards work and would interact with the steelwork.
The order was quickly thereafter placed with our Approved Installer in Poole, Unique Outdoors Living Group, chosen to complete the installation of the decking system. Mark and his team at Unique have completed the AliDeck Training Academy and are experts on all of our products.
This expertise shone through when it came time to place the order, with additional elements from our range specified by Unique to deliver the perfect install.
First of all, our Triple Bolt Channel was designed into the project to minimise the number of times the steelwork needed to be penetrated for bolts; using the Triple Bolt Channel avoids having to drill into steel for every single board, protecting the galvanisation and helping to ensure the longevity of the structure.
Our Drainage Channels were also specified to capture water between the boards and divert to a bespoke gutter at the balcony end. Doing this not only helps to carry water well away from the building to prevent damage or ingress but also helps to provide a much drier space directly beneath the balconies than if the boards were free-draining. With the steel frames being so high to the balcony level, the space beneath is a prime opportunity for covered storage or outdoors living, so it’s a win all round!
As you can see in these photographs, the decking installation went very well and the team at Unique Outdoors Living Group delivered the high standard that you would expect from an AliDeck Approved Installer. Unique are based in Poole, Dorset, but are able to cover the whole South West of England for new-build and refurbishment/retrofit projects of any scale.
