Product Update: New and improved span performance for our cost-effective AliDeck Lite Aluminium Decking Board, now spans up to 600mm between supports

Following the recent update for our Junior Board span, we are delighted to announce that our entry-level, cost-effective AliDeck Lite Board now also has a new and improved span performance!

Performing deflection testing in line with the criteria set out by BS8579:2020 (the guide to the design of balconies and terraces), we can confirm that the AliDeck Lite Board exceeds the requirements at spans of up to 600mm.

BS8579:2020 requires that the “pedestrian surface” (ie; the decking) deflects no more than 5mm under a static 2.0kN point load. The comprehensive load testing we performed recently applied this load to the Lite Board and we were pleased to see a maximum deflection of 4.84mm was recorded at 600mm span between supports. This confirms the compliance of the AliDeck Lite Board with BS8579:2020 for deflection.

This enhanced span for the Lite Board from 400mm to up to 600mm allows for major savings to be achieved by our customers. The Lite Board is our most cost-effective aluminium decking board, with a simplified profile design as compared to our higher end Junior and Senior decking board ranges, and was initially designed to act as a direct replacement for timber and composite decking, hence why we matched the original span recommendation to the 400mm that is common for timber and composite products.

The decking market has evolved from that point, though, and our customers are often looking for the broadest range of solutions, from entry-level to high-end premium. We are best placed to fully serve our customers by extending the Lite Board recommended maximum span to 600mm to allow its use in projects that require further reach.

For our customers to now be able to confidently specify the Lite Board for their projects that require more than 400mm span is a game changer. The savings available are substantial, particularly when the reduced underside support requirements are factored in.
