Product Update: AliDeck 20mm Junior Balcony Board now spans 800mm and achieves BS8579 deflection compliance

As part of our commitment to providing excellent balcony component systems to our customers, AliDeck is continually refining and innovating our product range to deliver the solutions that industry requires.

Accordingly, following deflection testing we are delighted to confirm that the AliDeck 20mm Junior Balcony Board maximum permitted span is now 800mm!

BS8579:2020 (the guide for the design of balconies and terraces) outlines a requirement for the pedestrian surface (ie, the deck) of a balcony to deflect no more than 5mm under a 2.0kN point load.

After conducting deflection testing, we can confirm that our Junior Board deflects 4.28mm under 2.0kN point load at a span between supports of 800mm. This deflection and span performance for our 20mm board exceeds the capabilities of our competitors’ matching offerings hands down.

The AliDeck Junior Board is our most popular aluminium decking board. With a 20mm profile depth, the Junior Board is available in flat or ridged specification and benefits from our original central fixing channel and cover. This clever innovation allows for incredibly fast installation by fixing directly through the board rather than via clips and has been much imitated in the market but, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

The extended 800mm span of the AliDeck Junior Board means that less underside support is required in balcony and terrace construction. This allows for money to be saved by reducing steel in balcony frameworks or by using fewer aluminium support joists. Scaled over a project, thousands of pounds in materials and labour can be saved.
