The AliDeck Lite Board is the perfect non-combustible solution for leaseholders needing to replace timber or composite decking
Building owners received some good news this week related to replacement decking, with the Government announcing the launch of a £1 billion Building Safety Fund to address the urgent removal of dangerous cladding and combustible materials from buildings 18 metres and taller.
The fund is targeted at supporting leaseholders in the private sector who face significant bills in making their properties safe, but there is also provision in the Fund for social sector properties in certain circumstances. This new funding and Government intervention is welcome news as there have been worrying delays in action to remove combustible materials since the Grenfell tragedy and subsequent legislation changes.
With balconies now defined as part of the external façade of a building, replacement of timber or composite decking materials is absolutely essential and property owners are now able to draw on the Building Safety Fund to move these replacement works forward.
We recently launched our cost-effective, low-profile AliDeck Lite Board which was designed specifically for retrofit and replacement purposes. The Lite Board delivers a non-combustible, quick-fit timber or composite replacement decking solution that is tailor-made for property owners looking for the most cost-effective way to achieve compliance with new fire-safety legislation.
AliDeck developed the low-profile Lite Board following conversations with public sector property managers desperate to source a technically and commercially viable solution for essential upgrade works.
Richard Izzard, AliDeck Managing Director, said “Property owners, in the private sector and also Housing Associations and Local Authorities, are now faced with the mammoth task of replacing all combustible elements of their property portfolio, including balconies. Following Grenfell, balconies are now defined as part of the external wall of buildings for the first time and so are included in the new, more stringent fire safety legislation.”
Even with the support provided by the Building Safety Fund, building owners have a difficult financial task ahead of them in achieving compliance with the new fire regulations, but the new AliDeck Lite Board comfortably meets the challenges of both cost and practical concerns for refurbishment works.
“We designed the Lite Board as an entry-level decking board,” continued Richard. “While we intended it to answer a lot of questions for the public sector in terms of cost, safety and ease of installation, these benefits naturally translate to usage across all sectors as combustible materials are replaced. It’s undoubtedly a great product that will transform the market’s response to the new legislation.”
The Lite Board is fully compatible with AliDeck’s established range of joists and pedestals and for even greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness is launched alongside a new low-profile support beam, the AliDeck Lite Joist. Used in combination, the Lite Range captures the essence of ‘value for money’, delivering all the safety and compliance benefits for a fraction of the cost.
