Grenfell Tragedy Fifth Anniversary

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy. Claiming the lives of 72 innocent people, it was the largest residential fire in the UK since the Second World War.

This disaster revealed many lessons that needed to be learned to ensure the best possible chances of such an occurrence never happening again. With London unable to expand due to the green belt additional high-rise towers have been the forefront of London’s development programme, adding to the urgency of reform.

We share a collective responsibility to play our role in this reform, with the move towards non-combustible and fire safe materials a key focus. While fire safety remediation across the United Kingdom will be a lengthy and expensive process it is essential, and the outcome for our Nation will be invaluable.
