NHBC Standards 2023 Published, No Changes For Balconies
As the year draws to a close, an eagerly awaited document has been published; NHBC Standards 2023.
While architects and constructors will now spend time poring over the detail to understand any new NHBC requirements that will come into force from 1st January 2023, we can report that there are no changes to the chapter concerning balconies.
The National House Building Council (NHBC) is the UK’s leading new home warranty provider and the largest Approved Inspector with its building control wing. Their annual Standards document is a substantial publication that outlines the best practice approach for all areas of housebuilding.
As a conscientious manufacturer and supplier to the construction industry, AliDeck have been in close communication with NHBC throughout 2022, in discussion with them over the correct and optimum use of our decking and balcony component systems and also on project-specific matters. We have built a productive working relationship and are committed to doing all we can to assist our customers to successfully engage with NHBC when specifying AliDeck material, especially so when incorporating our Balcony Drainage System water-management solution.
While there are no changes to the scope and requirements for balconies in the new version of NHBC Standards, specifiers and designers should always engage with AliDeck at the earliest design opportunity to discuss the balcony designs and sense-check them against both NHBC Standards and against what we have learned from our many enlightening conversations with the organisation. AliDeck remains committed to compliant and safe balcony design and are keen to make every effort to help our customers meet the exacting standards required by building control to those ends.
